Q: What is OLSAL?

A: OLSAL stands for Of Light, Shadow and Love, the title of our novel. It is a multi-author roleplay work of fiction that relates the story of three individuals in Megatokyo: Lightsider, Shadowdancer Duskstar, and Tohru Mizuno.

Q: Why are you selling this?

A: For a couple reasons. Primarily, we would like to raise money to see those members of the Megatokyo forums who would not ordinarily get to see each other to A-kon 2004, in Texas. Forum members are very wide ranging, with some in Europe and the Far East. We would love to see them all!

Q: The Authors aren't getting a cent?

A: Not a penny.

Q: Why should I buy it? You have made the entire thing available online!

A: Well, you don't have to, but the book itself is a great piece of art in and of itself. In addition, the book has full-page color artwork in a special section in the back, as well as a Bonus CD that includes the full text of the original story and comments as they appeared in the Megatokyo forums.

Q: What are the books like?

A: OLSAL will be told in three volumes. Each of them will contain a good portion of the story, (About paperback novel length), plus full-color artwork and B&W illustrations. Each book will be about 8 1/2" by 11" in size, to accomodate the artwork.

Q: You're using characters that are already named and copyrighted. Isn't that illegal?

A: This is what is known as a doujinshi, or fan-based work. Fred has publicly stated that he supports doujinshi based on his characters, provided that they do not depict his characters in untoward ways. We at OLSAL have constantly strived to portray Fred's characters as closely to their behaviors in his story as possible.
